How To Build A Conversation April 25 & May 2, 9, 16
Learn how to carry on a dialog without saying a word! For the first half of this workshop, we will learn the theories of interpersonal communication as they apply to those quasi-humans known as characters. We will cover how to convey unspoken messages through narrative and the most effective ways of laying out dialog to maintain pacing. In the last two weeks of the workshop, we will analyze sample chapters to determine which methods were applied successfully and which were not. We will use these tools to create our own trial communications between characters from different points of view. http://www.jacobsensbooks.com/product/how-build-conversation-workshop
How to Build a Scene May 23, 30 & June 6, 13
Learn how to sculpt the basic building blocks of story! In the first two weeks, we will discuss the types of scenes available to a writer and ways to arrange scenes for optimal impact. We will also go over the structure of a scene, setting the stage, and introducing information through a point of view character. In the third week of the workshop, we will study sample chapters to observe these theories in practice. And finally in the last week, we will begin utilizing these tools to build scenes for our own works. http://www.jacobsensbooks.com/product/how-build-scene-workshop
